cupping

cupping is an ancient modality used to relieve a variety of conditions. unlike other forms of bodywork that applies pressure downward, cupping is unique in drawing the tissue upward. this can offer profound relief for muscular tension and pain. additionally cupping can pull out heat and toxins, and resolve qi stagnation. by increasing the circulation of blood and lymph, cupping improves the tone, elasticity and luminance of the skin, as well as supporting immunity.

after cupping you will likely have circular marks that can range from slightly darker than your natural skin color to deep purple, even bordering on black. this is a normal and safe response. unlike bruises, which result from new damage to blood vessels, these marks are the result of an old accumulation of heat / toxins / stagnation and are rarely painful. most cup marks will fade within a week or two.
